COSI and Camille Schrier, Her Royal Scientist and Miss America 2020, Launch Innovative “Her Royal Scientist” STEM Kit
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Center of Science and Industry (COSI), the top-ranked science center in the country by USA Today’s 10Best, and Camille Schrier, Her Royal Scientist and Miss America 2020, have teamed up to launch a new, innovative partnership to engage, inspire and transform girls and boys around the power of women in STEM through its new “Her Royal Scientist” Learning Lunchbox and COSI Connects Kits.
The “Her Royal Scientist” COSI Learning Lunchbox Kit will include six immersive activities exploring different fields of science including creating a chemical reaction called Elephant Toothpaste, launching a rocket and trying out some forensic science tactics to solve a crime.
This new kit is COSI’s eighth Learning Lunchbox STEM kit and was developed by scientists at COSI along with Camille Schrier, Miss America 2020, herself. As an advocate of women in STEM, Ms. Schrier holds two degrees from Virginia Tech, biochemistry and systems biology and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Pharmacy from Virginia Commonwealth University. The kits are also made with support from the Franklin County Commissioners, City of Columbus and the State of Ohio.
The COSI Connects: Learning Lunchbox initiative is an innovative program led by COSI and a collaboration of meal providers, libraries, museums and cultural institutions across the state to deliver thousands of free, hands-on science kits to help bridge the gap. These boxes, historically created to be distributed alongside meal programs, provide activities aligned with state and national learning standards and promote science, technology, engineering, arts, math (STEAM) and more.
“Inspiring girls and boys around women in STEM is critically important now more than ever, and COSI is excited to partner with Camille Schrier, Her Royal Scientist and Miss America 2020 on this innovative new kit that will serve those in-need in rural and urban communities alike,” said Dr. Frederic Bertley, president & CEO at COSI.
“I am so excited about this collaboration with COSI! Whether a girl or boy already loves science, is hesitant about science or is interested in other subjects, the COSI kit will let them try something completely different. The “Her Royal Scientist” kit is meant to inspire and educate boys and girls about the importance of women in STEM while learning that taking risks and expanding their world is important to their success. I am honored to be joining in on this innovative, a new way to serve families and youth and opening a door that allows them to pursue their dreams,” said Camille Schrier, Her Royal Scientist and Miss America 2020.
