COSI Named Best Science Museum in the Nation in Back-to-Back Years

Tuesday, 25 May 2021

COLUMBUS, OH – For the second year in a row, COSI has been named the #1 Science Museum in the country by the 2021 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Travel Award Contest. Nominees were carefully chosen by a panel of experts including a combination of editors from USA TODAY, editors from 10Best.com, and other relevant expert contributors. The public then votes on the nominees, which this year included 19 other science museums across the nation.

“This is an incredible honor to be voted again the Best Science Museum in the nation by the people, and we could not be more excited and proud of this distinguished honor,” said Dr. Frederic Bertley, COSI President and CEO. “We want to thank all of our supporters across the country and especially those in Central Ohio who made this possible for back-to-back years. Even though COSI’s physical doors were closed this past year, our community doors were wide open and we worked tirelessly to serve families and youth in so many different ways. We are excited to reopen on June 3 to welcome guests back to COSI to see firsthand why we are indeed the best science museum in the country.”

The top ten winners in the Best Science Museum category are as follows:
  1. Center of Science and Industry (COSI) - Columbus, Ohio
  2. Liberty Science Center - Jersey City, New Jersey
  3. Tellus Science Museum - Cartersville, Georgia
  4. The Franklin Institute - Philadelphia
  5. Michigan Science Center - Detroit
  6. Denver Museum of Nature & Science - Denver
  7. Bishop Museum - Honolulu
  8. Perot Museum of Nature and Science - Dallas
  9. Fort Worth Museum of Science and History - Fort Worth, Texas
  10. Saint Louis Science Center - St. Louis
Though the doors have been closed, COSI has been engaging with the community, working every day to deliver science to people where they live, learn, and lounge. Most notably through COSI Connects, COSI’s digital doorway to online learning; the COSI Learning Lunchbox, kits filled with hands-on science activities; the new “COSI on Wheels: Curbside Edition;” The Color of Science: Digital Edition; QED with Dr. B, a WOSU-COSI weekly prime time science television show; and its annual COSI Science Festival.

COSI will reopen to the public on June 3, 2021. For up-to-date information on the re-opening and to reserve your tickets, visit www.cosi.org.
