Calling all big thinkers and bold makers! This exhibition is all about GIANTS -towering trees, roaring machines, deep oceans, ancient creatures, and mega-sized ideas. Monumental Giants invites artists to explore the epic scale of nature and industry through art. From mountain peaks to skyscrapers, fossils to factories - how do you capture the power of the colossal? Show us your biggest, boldest ideas and help us bring this larger-than-life vision to COSI.

MEET THE JURORS

Roman Suer began teaching elementary art with Olentangy Schools in 2005. Still actively teaching art to young students, his personal and professional focus is on the importance of social and emotional learning in our daily lives. This is his favorite topic for research and discussion, including his dissertation, his TED Talk “How Do We Teach Empathy,” his limited series podcast "The Art of SEL," and his Emmy award winning digital drawing program "Drawing with Mr. J." produced by WOSU Classroom. He recently wrote his first book "YES, Boys Can!" which celebrates the biographies of 50 men in the fields of health, education, the arts, and literacy. In 2018, Jonathan was named Ohio Teacher of the Year and one of four finalists for National Teacher of the Year. In 2023, he was named the National Elementary Art Teacher of the Year by the National Art Education Association. He lives in Columbus, Ohio with his family.

Iddrisu Seidu is a interdisciplinary visual performing artist and writer based in Columbus, Ohio. Gibson advocates for the mutuality of Art and Science not only for the creation of wonder, but as being absolutely essential for the mundane, and joined COSI’s KINETIC Board in 2023. Alanna graduated from Alfred University and University of Dayton, and is a former curator of the WH Thomas Gallery in Columbus, Ohio. She is overjoyed about serving on this juror panel for the Center of Science and Industry.

Dolly Hayde, Co-Director, Center for Research and Evaluation (CRE), COSI
Dolly Hayde is the Co-Director of COSI’s Center for Research and Evaluation (CRE), a department of COSI social scientists committed to the study of learning and leisure experiences, often with and for external partners and clients. Dolly grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of Arkansas, where she received academic training in cultural anthropology and fell in love with learning about the world around her. Her career in research and museums has given her the opportunity to see many other awe-inspiring things, from ancient expressions of human ingenuity in Northwestern Europe, Central America, and South Asia to Arctic fossils dating back to the Pleistocene Epoch. As an avid crafter, zine maker, board gamer, and movie lover, Dolly relishes opportunities to experience and share wonder with others, and in her professional life, she works hard to help everyone stand on the shoulders of giants.
