From reshaping relationships and social norms to altering how we navigate daily life, smartphones have become essential—yet disruptive—tools in our modern world. Join Dr. B and an expert guest for an engaging community conversation on the societal impacts of our digital dependence and the evolving role of smartphones in our everyday routines.

This isn’t just another tech talk—it's a safe space to unpack the ways our devices have changed human interaction and behavior, and how we can reclaim balance in an always-connected world. Food and drinks provided.

Dr. Laurie AM Hommema
Senior Medical Director, Provider and Associate Well-Being, OhioHealth
Associate Program Director, Riverside Family Medicine, OhioHealth

Dr. Hommema, received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Microbiology, cum Laude, with Honors, from The Ohio State University. She worked as a microbiologist at Battelle Memorial Institute prior to receiving her Medical Degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident and was awarded Resident of the Year in Family Medicine. She joined the faculty as an Assistant Program Director in 2011, was named a New Faculty Scholar by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine in 2013 and awarded Family Medicine Attending of the Year. Her scholarly activity as faculty focused on resident burnout and mitigation efforts. In 2014 she assumed the role of Program Director of Riverside Family Medicine Residency and instituted a successful wellness curriculum throughout Graduate Medical Education at the hospital. In 2018 she received an AFMRD national Program Director Recognition Award and became became the co-chair of the OhioHealth Resilience Collaborative, pulling together a multi-disciplinary team from across the health system. In 2019 was named Senior Medical Director, Provider and Associate Well-Being. In this this role she develops, leads, and executes strategic and operational initiatives to improve well-being at OhioHealth. She oversees the OhioHealth Well-Being Center, and mental health practice that provides services to over 3500 associates and providers each year. Her team also provides onsite critical incident and well-being support throughout the OhioHealth foot print and their initiatives reach over 15,000 individuals each year. She is also a co-creator of WE LEAD, an OhioHealth business resource group dedicated to developing female leaders, she is dedicated to creating culture of inclusion and well-being at OhioHealth. An editor of The Resident’s Guide to Ambulatory Care, 8th edition, Dr. Hommema resides in Upper Arlington, Ohio, and garners much support and joy from her husband Kevin, and daughters Emelia and Clara.
