Attention players and families! Level up your skills with COSI and Game Arena. We have partnered to bring you a fun week-long esports camp this summer featuring two of our favorite games, Fortnite and Minecraft!

WHO CAN JOIN?
The esports camps are for players who are interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), careers in these exciting industries, and gaming in a fun and competitive atmosphere. The age groups vary based on game. Minecraft camps are geared for players 10 and up. Parental permission required for ages 8 – 9. Fortnite camps are geared for players 13 and up. Parental permission required for ages 10 – 12. Read more about ESRB ratings in our FAQ below.

WHERE IS THE CAMP?
The esports camp is online only and we invite you to join us on PC, PS4, Xbox, Switch, Phone or Tablet. Campers will be required to create their own free game account, as well as access to the free discord technology on your device. Discord is an application that can be run on any web browser, phone, or tablet and will be used for communication between camp counselors and other campers.

WHAT WILL WE DO?
Each day of camp will start with a STEM introduction led by a COSI educator, followed by a short game-focused coaching session so that you can learn from the pros and collegiate players. The day will end with about 2 hours of open play geared towards the STEM lesson of the day. We will even have some surprise guest speakers! At the completion of the camp, all campers will receive a limited edition certification of completion and COSI badge of STEM.

WHEN IS THE CAMP?
Campers meet for one week, Monday - Friday for 3-hours each day. Start dates vary based on your choice of game.
*Please note that a PC is required for Minecraft Edition of the esports camp.

How do I acquire your federal tax ID # for payment of the camp?

What happens if I am no longer able to participate in the camp?

All tickets are non-refundable/non-returnable.

How do I reserve and pay?

Please visit the COSI Camps website to reserve your spot. Camps are limited to 90 people total and space is limited. You may pay for your virtual camp at COSI.org. Each camp is $125 for a fun weeklong experience of learning, coaching, and playing.

How will my camper learn during this virtual camp?

Each camp will provide fun educational experiences that provide an overview of a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) topics each day that aligns with the in-game play. Campers will also learn about potential STEM career pathways.

What is Discord?

Discord is a free chat application. It is used primarily for video game players, providing them with ways to find each other, coordinate play, and talk while playing. Our virtual camps will utilized discord technology for game play.

How do I download Discord?

Discord is available for free. Please visit https://discord.com/download to download. Please refer to the Getting Started, Installation Guide and How Do I Join a Server guides to help you set up a Discord account.

What is the preferred hardware platform?

The virtual Esports camp is online only and we invite you to join us on PC, PS4, Xbox, Switch, Phone or Tablet for the Fornite camp. For the Fortnite camp, you will need to obtain the free version of Fortnite available here: https://www.epicgames.com/fortnite/en-US/home You will need PC and a JAVA version of Minecraft. https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition/. A windows 10 version of Minecraft will not work with this virtual camp.

Do I need to obtain Minecraft for this online camp?

Yes, you will need PC and a JAVA version of Minecraft. The JAVA Minecraft is available for purchase here: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition/. A windows 10 version of Minecraft will not work with this virtual camp.

Will campers be arranged in groups online?

Yes, each week-long camp will feature 9 virtual cabins. Virtual cabins will feature 15 campers each.

My child would like to be “grouped” with my friend/sibling, how do I ensure that?

Please refer to your confirmation email regarding steps to assign your cabin.

What happens if we have trouble signing in or internet challenges?

Campers will be provided with an orientation session to test your compatibility before your virtual camp. Orientation will take place on Sunday at 1:00 PM, one day before the start of your camp to test your system.

Who do we contact with content / connection questions before and during the actual session my child is enrolled in?

Will a parent need to be present at the computer the whole time during the camp or is it designed so that the child will be able to figure it out on their own?

Camps are designed as user-friendly and for child use.

What is the recommended age for the camps for the gaming content?

Minecraft camps are geared for players 10 and up. Parental permission required for ages 8 – 9. Minecraft has an ESRB rating of Everyone and additional information can be found here: https://www.esrb.org/ratings/35148/Minecraft/

What is the typical “schedule” for each camp day?

Camps will be conducted each day Monday – Friday for three hours. Additional time may be provided for in-play gaming.

What technology do I need?

The virtual camps will require the use of the free discord application. Campers will also need to provide their own hardware on PC, PS4, Xbox, Switch, Phone or Tablet for the Fortnite camp. You will need a PC for the Minecraft camp. If you select the Minecraft camp, you will need to download the JAVA version of Minecraft.

Will our contact info be shared with other gamers?

The usernames of campers will be provided to other campers. Campers will have the option to share additional contact information with their fellow campers if they choose to share that information.
