Holiday Double Feature: Enjoy two great Christmas-themed shows in one family-friendly program! Explore space with Santa in "The Alien Who Stole Christmas," then participate in a cosmic holiday sing-along with "Let It Snow." Running time: Approximately 40 minutes.
One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure: Explore the night sky with your favorite friends from Sesame Street! Follow along with Big Bird, Elmo and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, as they take you on a journey of discovery to learn about the Big Dipper, the North Star, the Sun and the Moon. Running time: Approximately 40 minutes.
“With the upgrade of the Planetarium equipment from the former star ball days, we have discovered the seemingly endless possibilities the digital projection system offers,” said David E. Chesebrough, Ed.D., president and CEO of COSI. “We can now envision a Planetarium that not only shows the favorite classic sky shows but also offers programming in the health and medicine fields, plus digital technology and innovation content such as a digital roller coaster and possibly even gaming.”
COSI has planned a daylong celebration on Saturday, November 22, 2014 in honor of the Planetarium opening. The first official show will be Our Universe Above: Winter Skies at 10:30am. NASA Glenn Research Center will be here with a moon rock from the Apollo 15 moon mission in 1971, models and images of the Orion Spacecraft, NASA’s next spaceship, and NASA’s Space Launch System for Deep Space Flights. There will also be a live COSI On Wheels presentation of the “Astounding Astronomy” traveling program from 1pm – 3pm in the Atrium.
