Increasing Accessibility at COSI

At the beginning of the New Year COSI received some great news! COSI was awarded grant funds from Autism Speaks, an organization focused on changing the future for those who struggle with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This grant award will allow COSI to continue our work on our “See it, Learn it, Live it” project.

This project focuses on providing opportunities and resources for those affected by Autism, or other sensory sensitivity conditions, which allows them to experience COSI’s awesome exhibits and experiences in an environment that encourages increased access. The funds awarded from Autism Speaks will allow COSI to continue to work with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, The Autism Society Central Ohio as well as additional community focus groups to develop video modeling resources of our guest.

This project, titled “ Video Modeling the COSI Experience”, will offer individuals with Autism or other special needs, increased access to COSI and exhibits through the development of video tutorials which will allow our guest the opportunity to see exhibits and learn more about the museum before visiting.

We are very excited that this idea received funding and we look forward to continuing to find opportunities to provide increased access to those who need it. I encourage you to continue to check COSI’s website for additional activities, initiatives and events that encourage increased access for those with special needs.  We have several things in the works, and we look forward to introducing new opportunities and resources to our guest as they begin to come to fruition.
