Exploring Building and Construction

On November 26th, Ms. Erin Decamella’s preschool classroom at East Columbus Elementary acted as construction workers during the preschool outreach program, 3,2,1…Build It. Children put on construction vests, picked out tools to use, measured, and worked together and side-by-side during this class. Take a look.

3, 2, 1... Build it Fun!

On November 11th, at Oakmont Elementary, Ms. Pollyann Giffin’s preschool classroom took part in COSI’s 3,2,1…Build It program. This program was provided to the elementary school on behalf of PNC through PNC’s Grow Up Great Grant.

Children were very ecstatic to act as construction workers and take on building and measuring challenges.

COSI's High School YOU.edit Program

On Friday, July 26th, COSI's high school YOU.edit program culminated in a showing of student-made films in Galaxy Theater.

The program, supported by MacNeil/Lehrer and designed/operated in conjunction with WOSU's Shawn Likley, introduced teens to the various aspects of video production. Shawn and I led workshops on camera settings, lighting techniques, storyboarding, and editing.

Autism Activities Day at COSI

COSI is a vibrant hub of scientific activity, engaging nearly one million learners of all ages through our onsite and outreach experiences. We inspire an interest in science and encourage people to want to learn more are the amazing world around them. Through a recent partnership with the Nationwide Children's Hospital Autism Treatment Network, COSI invited Dr. James Mulick, a physician with Nationwide Children's Hospital, to provide a free lecture titled "Understanding the Child Brain and Autism". We were thrilled with the attendance, which included parents, students, and teachers interested in learning more about Autism, and it also provoked an interest in not only myself, but also the Autism Treatment Network at Nationwide Children's Hospital to forge a partnership.

What exactly was that interest in..? We both wanted to know...How can we make COSI more enjoyable for children on the autism spectrum?COSI is a vibrant hub of scientific activity, engaging nearly one million learners of all ages through our onsite and outreach experiences.
