Field Trip Workshop "At The Park"

On February 13th, Ms. Willis’ preschool classroom from Arlington Park Elementary visited COSI and participated in the Field Trip Workshop, At the Park. During this program, children were able to explore activities that relate to what they may see, notice, or discover when they are outside at the park, at school, or in their neighborhood. Children were able to explore weather including wind and rainfall, construction of playspaces, and colors of nature.  Take a look at children’s explorations below!

Here, children are exploring water: rainfall, splashing, and puddles. What happens when water falls to the ground? Can you make splashes in the water? What does that sound like?

Fun in Hops, Slithers, and Crawls

Participating in inquiry learning, toddlers today at our Toddler workshop, Hops, Slithers, and Crawls, were exposed to animals that hop, slither, and crawl. Children and their adult enjoyed a short story and songs, then visited open exploration activity centers.

Make Rube Goldberg Contraptions With us This Weekend!

Join COSI team in Gadgets Cafe this weekend for some new "design-based learning" activities.  We'll be playing with a plethora of common items (paper towel tubes, string, marbles, plastic cups, rubber bands, etc) to make Rube-Goldberg-style contraptions!!!

Thinking about Climate Change: What can we do about it?

My last few blog posts have focused on climate change vocabulary. In addition to understanding the terminology associated with climate change, it is important to understand the basic mechanism driving the phenomenon so that we can find ways to lessen the damaging impacts.

Increasing Accessibility at COSI

At the beginning of the New Year COSI received some great news! COSI was awarded grant funds from Autism Speaks, an organization focused on changing the future for those who struggle with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This grant award will allow COSI to continue our work on our “See it, Learn it, Live it” project.
